Planning is what Planning Does | Happy 2017!

Happy New Year everyone!

It’s that time of year where we all hit the “reset” button, and try to pretend like we’ve got it all together. For me, this always includes a trusty schedule. I grew up watching my mom fiddle with a large black bound book, and masterfully put method behind our family’s madness (soccer practice, taco salad night, y’know the usual). She jokingly referred to her planner as her “Bible,” and by it we knew the way.

As I grew up (gross) and started managing my own schedule, I adopted her same form of organization. Now with multiple jobs and people to travel to and love on, I don’t know where I would be without that little book!

Today I’m sharing you my favorite tips on how a planner to the fullest! It’s high time we get our life in order (or at least seem a bit more convincing)!

Always Pencil, Never Pen

Life is messy, but your planner doesn’t have to be! I religiously use pencil to avoid scribbles over changes. Doing this keeps my schedule free of clutter and helps keep my eye on the prize!

Tab the Day Away

This is one of my recent additions, adding tabs to my planner! I always keep one on the top of the current week so it’s easy to find. Additionally, when I have tentative plans, these tabs are perfect to move around or take away as things change! Keep a small stack at the front of your planner for easy access.

Include a To Do Booklet

If you’re like me, you’ve always got endless things “to do.” I include a completely separate booklet and secure with my planner’s elastic band to keep everything together. Even my to do lists are compartmentalized into categories!: To Buy, Blog, Work, and Other. Have I convinced you I’m crazy yet?

My Favorites Out There

Currently I’m in love with the simple style and pattern on my Rifle Paper Co. planner, but my other all time favorites are Erin Condren and Kate Spade!

These tips have helped me so much over the years, and I hope they help you take on every you aspire for in 2017! It may just be the Monica Geller in me, but with a good amount of planning, I think we can do anything. 😉

Keep up with Miss All Over the Place here!

  1. Great tips! I might incorporate some of them… My favorite planner is a Moleskine. I get this beautiful red one that works perfectly for me. I’ve bought the same one every year for the past seven years. I write the year on the spine in gold ink, and I love how they look all lined up on my bookshelf at the end of the year.
