Hello again! I’m back with more life updates (due to last month’s coming so late… oops!). August came with way more plans than I could chew, and met a few surprises along the way-

LOLLAPALOOZA

The month started back at one of my favorite music festivals! Joining the WildHare team for artist and staff catering, we took on this beast of a fest serving around 3,000 people a day. The days were long with little rest between, be we still took advantage of our evenings by going out and enjoying the closers! Highlights for me were Bruno Mars (who puts on a GREAT show), and of course the free drinks at VIP.

UNEXPECTED TRIP TO JAPAN!?

It was an early Monday (I’m talking 3:30am) when crew scheduling called me to fly to Orlando and back that morning. Sleepily I packed my uniform and makeup in my backpack and made my way to the airport. After meeting the crew, we found out our flight was delayed for a few hours. Bummer.

I decided to take advantage by popping into the crew sleep room (yes we have a sleep room) for a nap. It hadn’t been 30 minutes before my phone rang again… Crew scheduling. “You’re going to Japan,” they said, “and we need you to go to the gate now.”

So there I went on a 3-day trip with a just backpack and change of clothes… Instead of dinner with my roommates that night as planned, I was having sushi in Tokyo. What a weird life I live. The next morning I visited the temple in Narita and stocked up on treats to bring home (I had to buy an extra bag to bring them all back). To top it all off, I ended up with a deadhead home in first class! It was a work week of rare form, but it was fun finding ways to make it work!

**To better explain, I was originally assigned the 1-day Orlando trip, even though I was also on call several days after. When my flight continued to be delayed, and another flight attendant didn’t show up for her trip, they reassigned me so that the flight to Japan wasn’t delayed. TECHNICALLY we’re supposed to always be prepared for reassignment, although they are rare. What can I say? I like a little risk!

MAMMA MIA + ROCK OF AGES

The next weekend was packed with shows to see… first up, Mamma Mia at Joe Jefferson Players in Alabama! My sister recently relocated there to start her career, and auditioned the DAY SHE MOVED for this show! I loved getting to see her perform in such a fun production, and even got to meet her new friends at the cast party. It was so special to see her world and people loving her for the awesome gal she is.

I was off again the next morning to return home to Texas and see The Theatre Company‘s performance of Rock of Ages. This production was super special, because it brought back so many talents from when I was doing shows there! I was grateful  for the chance to catch up with old friends. I had a blast soaking up every minute (until probably about 4am??) before I dozed and caught an early morning flight the next day.

ROCKAWAY BEACH DAY

It finally happened! My crew’s been trying to go to the beach all summer, and this month we finally got the chance! The weekend trains were all sorts of messed up, but we found our way (4 transfers later) down to Rockaway to set up camp for a perfect afternoon. Sun bathing, volleyball and snacks galore, this is what summer dreams are made of.

COMING THIS SUNDAY, I explain ALL the ins and outs about the dreaded seat belt sign, and why flight attendants make it such a big deal. I love using the Travel Update platform to educate people on the ins and outs of flying, hopefully to ensure a better journey in the end for everyone! Head to this link to see what I’ve already cooked up over there, especially if you’re interested in knowing more about flying or want destination recommendations!

OBSESSIONS

Click on the photos for direct links to Amazon!

1. Dried Apricots

I. Can’t. Get. Enough. These are my ABSOLUTE favorite treat, and I’ve had to start buying two bags when I go to the grocery store. They’re the perfect sweet snack without the guilt (or stomachache).

2. Vanity Mirror

I recently moved rooms in my new house, and now I have a desk that doubles as a tv stand AND vanity. To make the space work, I recently purchased this mirror that is lightweight and easy to manage. It’s awesome because it has multiple magnifying mirrors and a dimming light, not to mention it’s less than $25! Click the photo to see all the features!

3. Madewell High-Rise Jeans

As we approach Autumn and (slowly) cascading temperatures, I thought it necessary to share my ride-or-die favorite pair of jeans. They’re the perfect high-rise and hug every curve. To make it even better, they’ve got an extensive size range for every figure, and quality that can’t be clocked. I’ve had the same pair for a year now, and they show zero signs of wear or tear!
