Survival of the Most Caffeinated

·Originally published on FEMPotential·

I always want more than 24 hours in a day of my fast-moving life. The closest solution I’ve found? CAFFEINE. We have a love affair people could write novels about. I’m always looking to get the most out of every day, and in my head, my morning cup is the equivalent to the pill Bradley Cooper takes in Limitless.

While we’ve all got plenty going on day-to-day, I think it’s important to recognize that we all have different requirements. If you’re not looking to spend $150 in a month on grande white mochas, then this article is for you! Join me as I walk through my recommendations for your best at-home coffee options that are delicious, calorie-cutting, and money saving! Here’s to finding the fix that best compliments your taste buds!

For the Bold: French Press

This is my absolute go-to at home, providing the strongest cup to fuel my day. French presses are fantastic for providing a frothy blend that surpasses the mass-dispensers at your local coffee shop. They’re inexpensive and easy to use. Just pour coffee grounds of your choice into the bottom (this month I’m enjoying Pilao – Brazil’s top coffee), fill with hot water to steep, press down, and enjoy!

Average cost per cup: $0.10

For the Early Riser: Keurig

While Keurig coffees don’t brew as strong as other options, they are perfect for those who rise early and take time to enjoy their morning cup (or two!). Of all the K-cups I’ve come across, Donut Shop’s Coconut Mochareigns supreme. The warm flavors compliment perfectly, all you need to add (if you so desire) is plain cream and sugar to sweeten. Added bonus, a Keurig is self-cleaning and dispenses individual cup sizes, all you have to do is add water!

Average cost per cup: $1.60

For the Easily Distracted: Espresso

For those of us who are overloaded with obligations and deadlines, sometimes it’s a chore just to remember our caffeine in the morning. If I’m on the go, my coffee always gets cold because I forget to drink it. With distraction in play and things to get done, the European way becomes a must. Brew a shot or two of espresso, bottoms up, and on your way! Add a sugar cube or cinnamon on days you’re feeling extra sweet. I adore the Nespresso, which works like Keurig but brews espresso!

Average cost per cup: $0.50

For the Chilled: CoolBrew

All Things Blush introduced me a few months ago to CoolBrew. Made by the New Orleans Coffee Company, this blend is naturally cold-brewed  and concentrated. The bottles come in different sizes and are easy to refrigerate at home! Lightly squeeze the bottle to fill the pre-portioned cup at the top, pour along with your choice of milk, and add your favorite sweeteners. I also really enjoy the different flavored CoolBrews, which all offer a strong way to start your morning or enjoy throughout the day!

Average cost per cup: $0.30

For the Groundless: AdvoCare Spark

Although coffee overwhelms the majority, it’s not the only way to get your much-needed energy boost! Try AdvoCare Spark, a sugar-free drink mix that has lots of healthy nutrients to wake up and fuel your body. It comes packaged either in individual portions or canisters with 42 servings. Choose between a variety of delicious flavors (my favorite is Fruit Punch), add water and enjoy! I may never break my coffee habit, but Spark is a welcome break from the norm.

Average cost per cup: $1.50

Now that I’ve let you in on my favorite caffeine kicks, I hope you’ve found option(s) that will best suit your lifestyle. Go forth and (energetically) prosper!
